Fiona the Flamingo Part 3

It’s time to finish up Fiona!

It’s part 3 of Fiona the Flamingo from the Too Cool for the Pool Crochet along, which means she’s almost done! Hooray! (If you missed part 1 or part 2, be sure to catch those first!)

Today we will be making her beak and eyes, attaching them and then making her hat to keep her cool by the pool.

Supplies Needed

Bernat Blanket Brights in Pixie Pink, Bernat Blanket Pets in Coal, Bernat Blanket in Vintage White, Bernat Blanket Brights in Pow Purple

Red Heart Super Saver in white and black

6.5 mm crochet hook

4.5 mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker

Abbreviations/Notes

ch(s)- chain(s)

st(s)- stitch(es)

Sc- single crochet

Sl st- slip stitch

Inc- increase

Dec- decrease

Blo- back loop only

Worked in spiral rounds, so use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch.

The hat is worked in joined rounds, joined with a slip stitch.

Instructions

Beak

Using coal and 6.5 mm crochet hook

Create a double magic ring, ch 1 and sc 5 into the ring.

Round 2: sc in each st (5)

Round 3: inc in each st (10)

Round 4: sc in each st (10)

Round 5: sc in first 3 sts, inc in next 4 sts, sc in last 3 sts (14)

Round 6: sc in each st (14)

Round 7: sc in first 3 sts, dec in next 4 sts, sc in last 3 sts (10)

Switch to pink

Round 8: sc in each st (10)

Switch to white

Round 9: sc in each st (10)

Fasten off, leaving a 6-8 inch tail to sew onto the head.

Hat

Using white and 6.5 mm crochet hook

Create a double magic ring, ch 1 and sc 8 into the ring. Join with a sl st and ch 1

Round 2: inc in each st, join, ch 1 (16)

Round 3: sc in first st, inc in next, [sc in next st, inc in next], repeat [ ] 6 more times, join, ch 1 (24)

Round 4: sc in first 2 sts, inc in next, [sc in next 2 sts, inc in next], repeat [ ] 6 more times, join, ch 1 (32)

Rounds 5-6: sc in each st (32)

Switch to purple

Rounds 7-8: sc in each st (32)

Switch to white

Round 9: sc in first 3 sts, inc in next, [sc in next 3 sts, inc in next], repeat [ ] 6 more times, join, ch 1 (40)

Round 10: sc in first 4 sts, inc in next, [sc in next 4 sts, inc in next], repeat [ ] 6 more times, join, ch 1 (48)

Round 11: sc in first 5 sts, inc in next, [sc in next 5 sts, inc in next], repeat [ ] 6 more times, join (56)

Eye

Using weight 4 (worsted) yarn and 4.5 mm crochet hook in black

Create a double magic ring, ch 1 and sc 6 into the ring

Change to white and inc in first 3 sts, sl st into next.

Fasten off both white and black, leaving 6-8 inch tails to sew onto the face.

Assembly

Attach the eyes on the 7th to 8th row down from the top of the head. Attach the beak in the middle of the face start on the 8th row down from the top and working to the very bottom of the head, making sure the beak stays flat. I did not stuff the beak.
