Hello and welcome to part 2 of Art the Arctic Puffin from the Adorable World of Arctic Animals CAL!
Today, we will be working on the wings (be sure to make 2!), the tail, the belly patch and the white eye patches (make 2 of these, too!).

The materials you will need today are your black and white yarns (weight 4, aran), your 4.5 mm crochet hook, a stitch marker, scissors and a tapestry needle. No stuffing needed today!
Art the Arctic Puffin Pattern Part 2

As a reminder, here are the pattern notes for this pattern:
- This pattern uses US terminology.
- ( )- denote a group of stitches worked in the same stitch.
- [ ]- denote a group of stitches that is repeated as many times as stated.
- If the number follows the abbreviation (such as “inc 5”), you will work the instructed stitch that many times over successive stitches (in the example, increase in each of the next 5 stitches).
- Rounds are worked in spiral rounds without joining, unless otherwise stated. A stitch marker is helpful to keep track of rounds (mark the first stitch in each round).
And these are the abbreviations you will need today:
- sc- single crochet
- st(s)- stitch(es)
- inc- increase
- ch(s)- chain(s)
- sl st- slip stitch
- dec- decrease
- hdc- half double crochet
- dc- double crochet
- tr- treble crochet

So let’s get started!
First, we will work on the wings be sure to make 2!
Wings
Using black,
Round 1: Create a double magic ring and sc 8 into the ring (8)
Round 2: inc in each st (16)
Round 3: sc in first st, inc in next, [sc, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (24)
Round 4: sc in first 2 sts, inc in next, [sc 2, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (32)
Round 5: sc in first 3 sts, inc in next, [sc 3, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (40) Weave in starting end.
Ch 1 and fold the circle in half. Sl st the first st of Round 5 to the last st of Round 5, then continue to sl st the circle together (20)
Fasten off, leaving a 12 inch tail to sew to body.
Next, we will work on the tail.
Tail
Using black,
Round 1: Ch 8, join with sl st
Round 2: ch 1, sc in each ch, join with sl st (8)
Round 3: ch 1, sc in each st, join with sl st (8)
In order to make a split tail, the next section will be worked on half of the stitches, fastened off and repeated on the second half.
Round 4: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, ch 2, join to first st with sl st (6)
Round 5: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 chs, join with sl st (6)
Round 6: ch 1, dec evenly, join with sl st (3)
Fasten off, leaving a 6-8 inch tail. Rejoin yarn at the 5th st (or first unworked st)
Second Side
Round 4: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, ch 2, join to first st with sl st (6)
Round 5: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 chs, join with sl st (6)
Round 6: ch 1, dec evenly, join with sl st (3)
Fasten off, leaving a 6-8 inch tail. For both points, weave the end through the remaining stitches and pull tight. Pass the end through the center of the circle and pull through the body of the tail to help create more of a point for the tail.
Now we’re finished with the black yarn and ready to move onto the white yarn.
Belly Patch
Using white,
Round 1: Create a double magic ring and sc 8 into the ring (8)
Round 2: inc in each st (16)
Round 3: sc in first st, inc in next, [sc, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (24)
Round 4: sc in first 2 sts, inc in next, [sc 2, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (32)
Round 5: sc in first 3 sts, inc in next, [sc 3, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (40)
Round 6: sc in each st (40)
Fasten off, leaving a 24 inch tail to sew onto the body. Weave in starting end.
Eye Patch (Make 2!)
Using white,
Round 1: Create a double magic ring and sc 8 into the ring (8)
Round 2: inc in each st (16)
Round 3: sc in first st, inc in next, [sc, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (24)
Round 4: sc in first 2 sts, inc in next, [sc 2, inc], repeat [] 6 more times (32)
Round 5: sc in first 13 sts, hdc in next, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc in last 13 sts (32)
Fasten off, leaving a 18-24 inch tail to sew onto the head and weave in starting end.
